Elsie D. Kayser, 94 years old, of Rockford passed away August 4th at Rosewood Care Center. Born May 4, 1923 in Liege, Belgium, the daughter of Martin and Augusta (De Bleyser) Nelissen. Elsie was fluent in French, Flemish, German and English. While working as a translator for the Belgian government, she met her future husband, Loren E. Kayser, who served in the US Army in WWII. They married Aug. 18, 1945 in Belgium. Elsie came to the US as a war bride the following April. Elsie worked as an Executive Secretary for Marion Health and Safety. She was a member of Second Congregational church where she chaired Women's Fellowship, was a Deaconess, served on the Board of Trustees and was a member of other church committees. Elsie also volunteered at Rockford Memorial Hospital for numerous years. She enjoyed many trips to Europe and around the United States and was happiest spending time with her granddaughters and family.

Elsie is lovingly survived by her daughter, Carol (David) Patterson; granddaughters, Krista Patterson (fiancé, Jonathan Wigser) and Nicole (Eric) Kretzer; brother-in-law, Raymond (Arlene) Kayser and his family; and many friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Loren, and her sister-in-law, Irene (Kayser) Simek, and brother-in-law, Clarence Simek.

A private service will be held to celebrate Elsie's life at a later date. The nurses and staff at Rosewood Care Center and Heartland Hospice cared for Elsie in her later years. We are very grateful for their loving support. Sunset Funeral Home, Machesney Park, IL will be assisting the family.

Memorials may be made to 2nd Congregational Church or Heartland Hospice.
